Classic yet compelling are the words we use to describe this beautiful Savage MN kitchen remodel project. Our clients came to us with Pinterest boards and Houzz ideabooks filled with black and white kitchens. Their existing kitchen was your usual 90s combination of golden oak and dated details. Needing to stay within the original footprint of the space, they nonetheless wanted a transformation to better suit their taste and we set about coming up with a design that would deliver in a way that felt fresh, fun, and updated.
Taller white cabinetry along the perimeter walls and newly enameled white woodwork immediately brightened the space. Meanwhile, a textured grey subway backsplash and gorgeous black quartz countertops flecked with gold keep things interesting. The island, enlarged to include much-needed additional storage, perfectly complements the classic white and black color scheme with a black washed stain and stunning white-veined quartz countertops. Meanwhile, gold accents abound, transforming what could be boring into a sophisticated yet fun design. Brushed gold cabinet hardware, a matte gold faucet, mini-pendant lighting with gold accents, and the flecks of gold in the black quartz all work together to create an element of playful sophistication. And for the finishing touches? Lots of new ambient lighting, oak floors refinished with a darker stain, and a new knockdown ceiling. Interesting to note – the homeowner kept their wall color the same and the only appliance we moved was the microwave. A lovely example of how a project involving minimal footprint changes can still make a big impact.
