Revival Kitchen Remodel
New Prague, MN | 2024
Step into this home, and you can’t help but be awed by the artful intermeshing of past and present.
The kitchen, remodeled by previous homeowners, clashed rather than celebrated the home’s unique style, and despite the remodel, the space remained dark and cramped.
The new kitchen now blends seamlessly with the rest of the home while opening up the space to both light and modern functionality. Removing the wall that previously enclosed the kitchen and shifting appliance locations makes way for a much-desired island featuring quarter-sawn white oak. Topped by a quartz countertop, the new island provides storage, breakfast seating and needed workspace. Along the back wall, a white oak wrap on the kitchen hood and Zellige clay tile backsplash add depth to painted cabinetry while giving a nod to the home’s Midcentury Modern roots.
Not to be outdone, soapstone makes a dramatic appearance, both in the countertops and as a backsplash behind the Viking cooktop. Nearby, a new sliding glass door welcomes the light while providing views of the lake below. New lighting and wood floors throughout complete the revival, masterfully toeing the line between the past and present.
