Meet our Home Remodeling & Renovations Team
Co-owners, Steve McDonald and Angela Barnhart, have a combined 30+ years in the design, construction, and real estate industries. Bringing this unique combination of experience into each and every project, we guide homeowners through the entire process, from concept to design to construction, to transform their kitchen, bath or lower level space into something they love while also understanding the best options to maximize their return on investment. We pride ourselves on creating spaces people love to live in, all while keeping within a budget, designing with quality, and executing with local, experienced craftsmen that share our values and outlook. We invite you to learn a bit more about our home remodeling and renovations team below.
Steve grew up in Burnsville and attended the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and earned a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. Steve entered into the field with a company that specialized in new construction and remodeling. His main focus was new construction until remodeling became much more popular and has continued to increase in popularity. His background in construction and customer service was perfect to transition his focus into remodeling. Over the past 30+ years, Steve has worked in the housing and real estate industry; from selling building products, managing residential construction companies, building a remodeling company, to selling homes. He believes there are many opportunities for design within the existing space and provides you with the unique ability to look at a home, understand the structure as well as the potential possibilities, and the actual costs behind the goals you desire. He enjoys that listening to people to gain an understanding of what they want to achieve in their kitchen or bathroom remodel, and from there is able to come up with and provide realistic solutions that will accomplish his customer’s visions of their remodels. Currently, Steve resides in Lakeville with his wife, Kari, and their 2 children. In his free time, he enjoys going to the cabin with family and friends and being outdoors, he also likes fishing, hunting, and skiing.
Angela’s interest in architecture and design started as a child, watching her dad build her childhood home. She pursued her dreams and went to college for Architecture and Interior Design, earning Bachelor’s Degrees in both fields. Over the past 8+ years, she has had the privilege of working in a variety of roles; from designer, to consulting and selling projects, as well as working in production and the execution of a project. This gives her a complete knowledge of a remodel from start to finish. Having completed NARI’s rigorous CKBR certification, she not only takes into consideration the aesthetics of making a kitchen or bathroom beautiful but the structure as well. Angela has a passion for taking her client’s wishes and dreams of their remodel and turning them into reality. She believes in giving her clients the best customer service possible and loves getting to know them and taking the time to really understand what they want to accomplish in their kitchen, bathroom, or basement, no matter how big or small the project is. She currently lives in Apple Valley with her husband Vince, their children, Natalie and Thomas, and dog, Zoe. When she is not designing beautiful spaces, she enjoys cooking, knitting, gardening, running, traveling, and spending time with her family on the boat.
After serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, Dane earned Bachelor’s Degrees in Management and Human Resource Management. While pursuing his education, Dane also began his work in the construction field. From general labor to leading construction operation teams, Dane has over 13 years of experience in the industry. His diverse skills and knowledge of multiple construction trades enable him to manage and coordinate projects efficiently. Above all, Dane values creating positive relationships with clients where they can depend on consistent communication and quality results.
Although he has lived in many places, Dane found his home in Minnesota five years ago. He currently resides in Lakeville with his wife, three sons, and a lovable lab. He enjoys building furniture, gardening, exploring the outdoors, and finding any excuse to get to the lake with his family.
Mike comes to White Birch Design as a seasoned professional, having worked in the building industry for 39 years. With his previous roles encompassing new home construction, windows, and doors, remodeling has been a welcome and exciting change for Mike. With his experienced eye and attention to detail, Mike’s role at White Birch Design helps ensure a seamless transition, from demo to rebuild, to ensure results that match our original design and our homeowners’ expectations.
Married to his wife, Michelle, for 25 years, Mike enjoys nothing more than spending time with her and their four kids, Kayla, Richard & Mitchell (identical twins!), and Lauryn. When not at work, you’re likely to find Mike tinkering with a car or enjoying the great outdoors up north at the cabin.
While Alicia’s degree may be in business and accounting, she’s always had a passion for design. Helping her mother make material selections for their new home when she was young inspired a love of design that eventually landed her at Room & Board for several years, helping clients with space planning and furnishings, and eventually to become a kitchen and bath designer while working with several remodeling companies. Selections are still her favorite part of the remodeling process, drawing inspiration from one material to build an entire space that flows and works together! She also enjoys getting to know clients and considers the opportunity to help transform their space an honor that never fails to bring her joy.
When not at work, you’ll almost never find Alicia standing still. Whether traveling, hiking, skiing (anything having to do with mountains!), hanging out with her husband and three children, baking, gardening, or volunteering, there’s never a dull moment!
It’s hard to meet Scott and not leave with a smile on your face. His good-natured personality makes him a favorite among our clients and our team. He also happens to be the dad of co-owner, Angela, which means you’ll find plenty of banter when both are around.
Retired from a career in plumbing, Scott knows his way around a house which makes him an ideal fit for his role as Field Assistant. As the person who makes sure everything is exactly how it should be, his eye for details is appreciated by all. Ask Scott what his favorite part of the job is, and he’ll answer, “making customers happy,” and indeed, we count on him to do exactly that.
When not at work, you’ll likely find Scott outdoors — boating in the summer, snowmobiling in the winter, or on the beaches of Cabo for a few glorious weeks every March.
While home remodeling isn’t the path he started on, Kevin thanks his lucky stars every day to have found his way into the home construction industry. His career has spanned numerous segments of our industry making him a skilled tradesman across many areas.
Within his role as Job Supervisor at White Birch Design, we tap into that experience, relying on Kevin to fill in when and where needed to ensure that projects are on schedule and executed with the level of quality our clients deserve. Happy for the appreciation shown by his coworkers and our clients, Kevin loves the variety of work, knowing that every day looks a little bit different.
Outside of work, Kevin is the proud parent of two grown kids and an adorable yellow lab sidekick named Pacer, participates in a weekly bowling league and is an avid fisherman.
