Happy Fall Y’all! Its been awhile since we did a good before and after blog and this one is not one to skip over!
The Before: Hello Brass!
This spacious townhome in Apple Valley looked like it belonged somewhere on the beach in Florida. Lots of tile EVERYWHERE, brass fixtures, and contemporary white cabinets were screaming for an update to bring this bathroom closer to home. The homeowners of this master bath are contemplating moving in a few years and wanted to spruce up their bathroom to enjoy it for a bit before it gets put on the market.
The first was to create more storage, the bathroom lacked in this department with open shelving and no linen closet in the bathroom. Second, the tub was off white, HUGE (they would run out of hot water when they filled it), and not working properly, but we were going to try and keep it.
Unfortunately/fortunately, we were unable to remove the faucet from the tub and the manufacturer of the tub was no longer in business. Luckily for us, the homeowners had just enough tile from when the bathroom was built and we were able to put in a smaller tub! The next priority was to brighten up the room. They had can lighting throughout the bathroom, but the bulbs cast a very yellow light making it feel oddly dark in there. The bathroom also had brass fixtures, a heavy framed shower door, and beige walls.
It was so nice to see all that gold go! By taking out the heavy showerdoor and the fixtures, you can see that the tile was really versatile and able to work with a new color scheme! In the first picture above, you can see just how big that tub was! In the following pictures – just look at how much this bathroom transformed.
Seriously, it is hard to believe this was the same bathroom and the same tile. The contrasting vanity really pops in this refreshed space and the blue walls and brushed nickel fixtures make the bathroom feel so much brighter.
We went with a two-toned vanity here because we really wanted a change from what was previously in the bathroom. While an all-white vanity would have looked lovely, it would have felt too similar to the previous vanity. We also added plenty of storage for these homeowners – extra drawers under the sink cabinets, drawers where there were open shelves and of course the tower cabinet that sits on the vanity.
The tower cabinet provides extra storage for their everyday use and the lift up door creates a place to put all the countertop items away. We included an outlet in there for toothbrushes, hairdryer or flat iron. We also took advantage of the 10-foot ceilings by making the tower cabinet tall and elongated the mirrors to the top, creating a nice line for your eye to follow. The lights are cut into the mirrors, which adds visual interest.
In the shower, we put in a new frameless shower door, making the shower feel bigger. Also, we added some shelving and hooks! The smaller tub worked out really well in this situation and they now have enough hot water to fill the tub 🙂
The great thing about this bathroom is that all we really did was a makeover! While not every bathroom lends itself to just a quick refresh, this bathroom really benefited from a fresh coat of paint, an updated vanity, and new fixtures! We love being able to think smaller scale and still get you the results you are looking for.
